at corneliafunke.de/en they posted a press release about the meggie/farid auditions. here it is:
Here is the press release which went out on Tuesday, 5 September:
An Open Casting Call will take place next Saturday, September 9th, when the search begins to find two British youngsters to star in INKHEART, a major new production from New Line Cinema to be filmed later this year in the UK and Italy.
The film’s director, Iain Softley, and casting directors John and Dan Hubbard will spearhead the casting call which is to be held between 10.00 am and 4.00 pm, in The American Church, 79a Tottenham Court Road, London W1T 4TD.
They will be looking for a 12-year-old girl to play the principal role of Meggie and a 15-year-old boy for the key role of Farid.
John Hubbard emphasises that previous acting experience, although an asset is in no way essential.
“We will be looking for a pretty 12-year-old – although she could be a confident 10/11 or a small and innocent 13-year-old. She needs to be absolutely natural, warm, friendly and extremely likeable. She is articulate, intelligent and expresses herself in a clear well spoken voice. The girls we want to see do not need to have had any acting experience but if they do, it should be their own natural talent and not an imposed style”.
Farid is 15-years-old. He is dark skinned, Semitic, Asian or Mediterranean, and very physical; fast on his feet and lithe, but not big, with a slight build. An attractive and intelligent boy.
INKHEART, based on the best-selling children’s fantasy novel by Cornelia Funke, is a timeless adventure of imagination that centres on Meggie, a young girl whose father has a secret ability to bring characters from books to life when he reads them aloud.
