(Pennsylvania & New Zealand) - Send photograph & resumes ASAP to: Details Are only Available By Subscription.. Title: THE LOVELY BONES, Feature Film. PROD, Carolynne Cunningham, Fran Walsh, Peter Jackson, Aimee Peyronnet; DIR, Peter Jackson; SCR, Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens, Peter Jackson. Contract: SAG. Shoot Dates: Approximately Late October/Early November, 2007 (3-4 months shoot in Pennsylvania & New Zealand). STORY: The story opens in 1973 in Norristown, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Philadelphia. This is a quiet neighborhood in a time before photos of missing kids started appearing on milk cartons or in the daily mail. It was back when people believed things like that didn’t happen. Just before Christmas, 14 years old Susie Salmon decides to take a short cut home from school. While she is crossing a cornfield she encounters a neighbor, George Harvey. He wants to show her the underground fort he has built as a clubhouse for the local kids. Susie follows him. She is never seen alive again. The next time the audience meets Susie, she is in her own personalized version of "heaven." It looks a lot like her school playground, with the good kind of swing sets. She meets Holly, another dead girl, and they strike up a friendship. Everything she ever wanted appears as soon as she thinks of it - except the thing she most wants: to be back with the people she loved on Earth. In the weeks following her death, Susie watches life on Earth continuing without her: her family holding out hope that she'll be found, her killer skillfully covering his tracks, the once intense police investigation beginning to wind down. And as she watches, Susie remains powerless to change anything on earth. As months pass without leads, Susie sees her parents' marriage fall apart. Her father, Jack, consumed with guilt over not having been able to protect his daughter, becomes more and more obsessed with catching Susie’s killer. Susie watches as this obsession almost destroys her father. In the end, Susie faces a choice. To hold on to her own need for vengeance or to begin to see the world without her in it. Breakdown-- Susie Salmon: 14, Caucasian, American. She is a typical teenager. The well-loved, eldest child of an ordinary, middle-class family, Susie is a bright, outgoing and happy girl. Life has basically been good to her. She is 14 years old when she is raped and murdered. Part of the film covers her life when she is alive and part covers her life when she is dead. Susie remains fourteen throughout the entire span of the film. Despite the often-tough subject matter of the film, the role requires an actor who can also play humor. Lead; Mr. Harvey: 35-55, Caucasian, American. He is a pleasant looking man who wears glasses and dresses in an unassuming way. A wellrespected member of the community, George Harvey tells people, when asked, that he is a widower, having lost his wife, Sophie, to cancer. They never managed to have any children. He builds dolls-houses for a living, tends his garden and is always willing to offer a helping hand to his neighbors. Mr. Harvey is also a practiced and successful serial killer. Normally, he wouldn..t risk killing a child who lives so close to his own home. But then he sees Susie Salmon. It is essential that the actor does not try to play this character as being overtly creepy or "off". George Harvey is successful at what he does simply because he is the last person you would suspect of being a killer. Lead; Len Fenerman: 35-55, Caucasian, American. He is the lead detective assigned to the case of the missing girl - Susie Salmon. A widower, with no children, he has worked in law enforcement all his life. He is an intelligent, observant man who can normally find a way to distance himself from the horrors of the crime as well as the suffering of the victim’s family. In spite of knowing better, Len begins to find himself increasingly drawn to Abigail, Susie’s beautiful, grief-stricken mother. Co-Star; Lindsey Salmon: 13 to 18 years old (We would like the actor to be able to play the complete age range), Caucasian, American. She is the young sister of Susie. Growing up Lindsey is very close to Susie, both in terms of age and in terms of affection. This sometimes means the two girls squabble with each other, as sisters do. Lindsey has a quick and irreverent sense of humor and is not above deliberately teasing her older sister. Lindsey is bright, having made the "gifted" program at her Junior High. She is also athletic and is captain of her soccer team. She is 13 at the time her sister goes missing. Lindsey becomes more defensive, more cautious and more cynical following her sister..s death. There is only one person who ever manages to break through the walls she builds around herself to truly gain her trust .. a boy named Samuel Heckler. Co-Star; Buckley Salmon: 4/5 years old to 7/8 years old (We would like the actor to be able to play the complete age range), Caucasian, American. He is an adorable, outgoing, mischievous boy when we first meet him, aged around 4 to 5 years old. After his older sister Susie is killed, he becomes aware that the atmosphere around his house has changed. He notices that neighbors and friends begin to treat them differently. Initially, Buckley is unaffected by all this. He can still see Susie in his mind’s eye and feels her presence. He doesn’t find these memories sad or painful. But as he grows older he begins to understand the darker side of what truly happened to Susie. The happy, out-going Buckley grows quieter and more reserved. Co-Star; Ruth Connors: 14-18 years old (We would like the actor to be able to play the complete age range), Caucasian, American. She is 14 years old when we first encounter her. For most of her life, Ruth has felt out of step with her surroundings. Her family is poorer than the rest of the neighborhood; her father is seen as the local eccentric. The way Ruth dresses, her taste in music, books and art set her apart from her peers. Ruth doesn’t care that other kids see her as a "weirdo." As long as she’s got her art, she’s basically happy being on her own. Through a strange, inexplicable twist, Ruth becomes connected to Susie Salmon, a dead girl, who when she was alive, Ruth would never have been friends with. Co-Star; Ray Singh: 14-18 years old (We would like the actor to be able to play the complete age range), Indian/South Asian, British Accent. He is 14 years old when we first meet him. Originally from England and of Indian/South Asian descent, Ray now finds himself coping with school and life in suburban Pennsylvania. He is good-looking, extremely smart and the doted on only child of affluent, professional parents. A confident young man, Ray already knows that he is going to become a doctor one day. He has just begun to grow close to Susie Salmon, a pretty, young student at his school, when she suddenly goes missing. Ray has to cope as suspicion turns on him. He also has to deal with the feelings of loss he has now that Susie is gone. Co-Star; Holly: Anywhere between 13-16 years old, Vietnamese/American. She is the first person Susie meets when she arrives in the place Susie comes to know as "heaven". Holly is of Vietnamese descent, but speaks with a typical, teenage American accent. Good-natured, trusting and disastrously truthful, Holly has never really questioned the fact that she is now dead. The truth is, life on earth was never really that great for Holly. Overweight, not particularly pretty, she never had many expectations that her life was going to get any better. With Susie around, Holly is now hopeful that she has at last found a friend. Like Susie, Holly never ages during the course of the film. Co-Star; Samuel Heckler: 14/15 years old to 18/19 years old (We would like the actor to be able to play the complete age range), Caucasian, American. He falls in love with Lindsey Salmon when he is still in high school. Despite the fact that Lindsey is prickly and often tries to hold him at arm's length, Samuel is patient. He might not come from a particularly wealthy family, he might not be as ferociously smart as Lindsey, but he is quietly determined in his own way. Astute and decent, Samuel has a loving, true-heart. It doesn’t hurt that he’s also good-looking and rides a motorcycle. Co-Star. (Posted: May 1, 2007)
